WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

On 1 February 2020, we will select up to 10 Innovators. If selected, you will become part of our Accelerator programme, which will run from March to June 2020. This includes:

SUSTAINABLE BUILD Accelerator Forum 2020
Access to SUSTAINABLE BUILD’s Accelerator Forum from 21 – 23 April 2020, where you will hook up with a unique network of leading experts, businesses and organisations.
Advisory Board
Access to an Advisory Board, which will open doors to hard-to-reach contacts and help you scale your innovation.
Pilot projects
The opportunity to test your innovation in selected pilot projects in collaboration with SUSTAINABLE BUILD’s partners and network.

Strategic Counseling
Mentoring and strategic feedback from SUSTAINABLE BUILD vis-à-vis presentation technique, action- and business plans etc.
A professional, individual video
A professional, individual video of you and your solution to help market your innovation.
An enduring network
An enduring network across the value chain, which will remain even after the Accelerator programme has ended.

Our lives in buildings and cities are changing. Today, 70% of CO2 emissions come from cities. In 2030, approximately 60% of us will be living in cities, while our CO2 emissions must be reduced by 70%. Furthermore, around 210,000 danes feel lonely, while 7 out of 10 dream about living in a closer community. This requires significant transformation in terms of the way we work with sustainability in the built environment. We need to raise our ambitions to include solutions that embrace environmental, societal and economic aspects.

We are looking for innovators who can contribute to the next generation of buildings that will facilitate sustainable life.

Your innovation can be a response to one of the areas below:

INNOVATION AREA 1: SMARTER USE AND UTILISATION OF ROOMS AND SPACE AS A RESSOURCE

We must make buildings smarter and more flexible in terms of the way we utilise both square and cubic metres. Rooms and buildings must be made multifunctional and support different purposes. Unutilised square metres must be identified and put to use.

We are looking for innovations in the following areas:

How can buildings and already existing rooms support different types of use?
Which digital solutions can show and facilitate the use of unutilised square meters within private and public buildings and in our shared public areas?
Which approaches or methods can support that we build, to make it possible and desirable to live in the same home throughout different life phases?

INNOVATION AREA 2: SHARE MORE, DWELL SMALLER AND LIVE MORE

We must design and build to support new ways of living, and open the borders between what is yours, mine and shared. Façades of buildings must become more than just borders; they should contribute to the community. We need to think about services and platforms that facilitate trust, safety and closeness as a foundation of sustainable buildings.

We are looking for innovations in the following areas:

How do we rethink façades to generate community, openness and value in the perimeter between what is private and what is public?
How do we create and facilitate gathering points in setback, buffer and passage zones such as attics, courtyards and streets?
What digital and physical platforms and services can facilitate community, sharing and trust-building among residents in buildings and neighbourhoods?
How do we build rooms and facilities that enable flexible and shared use, while still maintaining the option of privacy?

INNOVATION AREA 3: FLEXIBLE BEHAVIOUR AND ROOMS – LONGER LIFESPAN OF BUILDINGS

We must create flexible homes that can adapt to our life patterns and phases. We need to make buildings more sustainable by increasing their lifespan and by ensuring durability: for example, through modular building design or design for disassembly. Both economically and logistically we must make it easy to choose, adjust and use the type of building customised for one’s needs at any given stage of life.

We are looking for innovations in the following areas:

How do we build and renovate housing adjusted to different phases of life?
What sustainable materials and products facilitate modular and flexible renovation, are durable, and can support different purposes over time?
How do we ensure user involvement in the entire lifecycle of a building, especially in the context of construction, renovation and modification?
Which digital services or platforms can make it convenient to move between different types of accommodation: for example, buildings-as-a-service?

WHO CAN APPLY?

We are looking for innovations from around the world that:

Are a new type of platform, system, process, method, business model, product, material, component – or something completely different.
Provide solutions for both existing and future buildings, and all phases in between.
Are in the stage from early prototype to commercial use.

We welcome applications from all industries, as long as your solution can facilitate more sustainable life in the built environment.

You must demonstrate the environmental and social sustainability of your innovation, and take into account such aspects as circularity, material and energy.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Transformation potential: How disruptive and scalable is the innovation within its area of focus?
Environmental impact: Does the innovation have the potential to improve environmental sustainability and circularity in the building industry?
Social impact: Does the innovation have the potential to create a better life for the users of buildings?
Technical feasibility: Can the innovation be commercialised on the basis of its technical performance?
Market access: How mature is the innovation, and to what extent does the company understand its market, customers and strategy?
Holistic perspective: Does the innovation demonstrate a holistic approach to the built environment, and does it take the entire user experience into consideration?
